Relating subjective ride quality ratings to objective measures

چکیده
Agencies have long used subjective roughness ratings from panels of users to inform policy development on road maintenance strategies. The commoditization electronics motivated the more objective, automated, and cost-effective measurement technologies. Consequently, there has been an explosion ensemble measurements using smartphones or connected vehicles. Nevertheless, agencies no means relating those sensor-based their customary linguistic scale human perceived levels. This research relates regular passengers public bus transit simultaneous smartphone-based objective measures roughness. findings are that riders consistently distinguished between extreme values measured but not intermediate values. Ratings also less distinguishable for smoother rides than rougher rides. experiments reveal a phenomenon acclimation leads biased segment. • A smartphone levels 164 Riders can better distinguish among higher lower difficulty discerning Policymakers should be aware in ride quality surveys.

Relating Objective and Subjective Ratings of Snap Bean Pod Color to Likelihood of Purchase
Snap bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivars with pods representing a range of greenness were grown in Oklahoma field trials in 2001 and 2004. Objective color evaluations (L* value and hue angle) performed on raw and cooked pod samples from 10 (2001) or 12 (2004) of these cultivars indicated that color testing of raw snap bean pods may not be sufficient to determine the color after cooking. Alth...
متن کاملFootwear Cushioning: Relating Objective and Subjective Measurements
Foot-ground interfaces exist in many different forms. Frequently the interface is a shoe or floor mat, and sometimes it is a carpet-like material, such as an Astroturf, providing specific biomechanical characteristics to help one perform effectively. Hence these interfaces can play an important role in improving functionality or performance, preventing injury, and reducing discomfort. Human mov...
متن کاملObjective and Subjective Measures of MPEG Video Quality
In 1996, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) adopted ANSI T1.801.03, which presents a number of new objective video quality metrics for quantifying the effects of digital compression and transmission impairments. The measurements in ANSI T1.801.03 were selected based on an extensive multilaboratory quality assessment study that included video systems from bit rates of 64 kbit/sec t...
متن کاملExamining Complexity across Domains: Relating Subjective and Objective Measures of Affective Environmental Scenes, Paintings and Music
Subjective complexity has been found to be related to hedonic measures of preference, pleasantness and beauty, but there is no consensus about the nature of this relationship in the visual and musical domains. Moreover, the affective content of stimuli has been largely neglected so far in the study of complexity but is crucial in many everyday contexts and in aesthetic experiences. We thus prop...
متن کاملSubjective Vs Objective Image Quality
Image quality demands have been investigated for different applications of stereoscopic evaluation. For that purpose, the quality of image pairs was judged by experienced stereo operators in subjective sc ales for contrast, sharpness, granularity, interpretability and overall quality. The judgment was made in real working situations with the images oriented in stereo instruments. The result sho...
